Donde Yiya, a place in Chapinero that brings the Caribbean coast to the capital of Cachaca». / Calle 54a # 15 – 64
I have always thought that one way to feel Colombian is to try a bit of our culture, starting with the gastronomy that is truly delicious and to feel the seasoning of Colombian chefs, a delicacy that is necessary to taste. Precisely, in a place in “Chapinero” we were able to find where to delight our palate with the original exquisiteness of coastal food brought to the capital; where we were dying to try. Coconut rice, a shredded meat (as they name it) or a fish that has the true coastal seasoning, the same one that makes our mouths water just thinking about it.
This is a place of Colombian tradition called “Where Yiya” Yiya is a restaurant that was named after its founder, who is determined to create delicious dishes that make eating a unique experience. From the moment we entered, we felt like we were on the coast, because everyone in that place speaks their own peculiar coastal way of speaking; with their grace and popular sayings, they gave us a pleasant afternoon. Also, when we tried their dishes, we felt transported to our childhood (especially me, who is of coastal descent), because their seasoning has that wonderful power. On the other hand, it can make us feel the entire culture of the Caribbean coast in our mouths, so much so that each bite tasted like the sea, like the sweet fruits that grow on the palm trees creating beautiful landscapes on the beach, and reminds us of the sun that lights up the coastal days and sunsets. In this way, we understood that being at Yiya's is not just about eating, but about living and feeling an experience that transports us to a magical place that makes us love and learn a little more about our Colombian culture, so much so that we will surely return. My recommendation, the shredded beef, is unique and has an unmatched flavor, accompanied by a non-traditional chicha, the best combination that could ever exist.
